My family and I moved to Amherst in 2021, quickly falling in love with the town, our neighbors, and the natural beauty surrounding us. Our children attend Fort River Elementary School, and we've settled into our home, with the hopes of staying here for decades to come.
As a Town Council member, my main priority will be to address the consistent budget shortfalls we face by increasing town revenues to provide proper funding for our schools, necessary infrastructure repairs and maintenance, and municipal departments. Amherst must prioritize transparency and collaboration to avoid yearly budget fights for smaller slices of an ever-shrinking pie. We are facing perpetually rising expenses, and Amherst residents continue to bear the costs of high property taxes while receiving less services for our money. Especially in uncertain times like these, we cannot rely on state and federal funding.
I believe these priorities can be achieved by increasing diverse housing options through smart and thoughtful planning, commonsense zoning, and reasonable density increases in the village centers and Downtown, while maintaining our towns integrity and historical charm. This will help to alleviate the tax burden on residents and adequately fund our schools, DPW, and the town overall, making Amherst a more accessible place to live for generations.
